Palladino Parafada Barolo 2015 750ml
Description
If Palladino’s regular Barolo shows grace in maturity, their single-vineyard Parafada reveals majesty. This commanding cru in Serralunga d’Alba produces wines of natural power and concentration, qualities that the warm 2015 vintage amplified. Nearly a decade later, we’re witnessing Barolo at its most complete.
Parafada’s combination of elevation and exposure creates a unique microclimate where Nebbiolo achieves remarkable complexity. The 2015 vintage’s warmth was tempered here by cooling breezes, resulting in fruit of exceptional ripeness without excessive alcohol. Palladino’s traditional approach in the cellar preserved the vineyard’s natural character.
The aromatic evolution has been remarkable. Intense perfumes of dried rose and violet mingle with preserved cherry, fig, and dates. The warmth of the vintage shows in notes of Christmas spice and dark chocolate, while bottle age has added leather, truffle, and tobacco. It’s a constantly shifting kaleidoscope of aroma that demands attention.
On the palate, Parafada flexes its considerable muscle with grace. The tannins remain substantial – this is Serralunga after all – but they’ve evolved from aggressive to assertive, providing structure without hardness. The concentration is impressive, with layers of dark fruit, licorice, and espresso balanced by earthy notes and bright acidity. The finish seems endless.
This 2015 Parafada represents single-vineyard Barolo approaching its apogee. While it will continue to evolve for another decade, it’s currently showing the perfect balance between youthful fruit and mature complexity. For special occasions that demand a wine of equal stature, this delivers magnificently.
