Michter`s US*1 Small Batch Unblended Blended Whiskey 750ml
Description
Michter’s US*1 Small Batch Unblended American Whiskey represents a unique category that showcases the distillery’s innovative approach to whiskey making. The seemingly contradictory name – ‘unblended blended whiskey’ – actually describes their process perfectly: while it’s a blend of different whiskeys, unlike typical American blended whiskeys, it contains no neutral grain spirits. This results in a whiskey with the complexity of a blend but the character and quality of a straight whiskey, offering something genuinely different in the American whiskey landscape.
The composition includes carefully selected bourbon and rye whiskeys, each aged in new charred oak barrels before being married together in small batches. This approach allows Michter’s to achieve a flavor profile impossible with single whiskey types. The nose presents an inviting combination of vanilla and caramel from the bourbon component, balanced by rye spice and dried fruit notes. On the palate, the texture is remarkably smooth, carrying flavors of butterscotch, cinnamon, and subtle oak char. The interplay between sweet and spicy creates dynamic complexity that evolves with each sip.
This whiskey’s balanced profile makes it exceptionally versatile. It excels neat or on the rocks, where its complexity can be fully appreciated without the high proof that might intimidate some drinkers. In cocktails, it provides the best of both worlds – the sweetness needed for whiskey sours and the spice structure for Old Fashioneds. The moderate proof and balanced flavor also make it an excellent introduction to American whiskey for those typically drawn to Scotch or Irish expressions.
Michter’s US*1 Small Batch represents American whiskey innovation at its finest, creating a new category that fills a gap in the market. By eliminating neutral spirits while maintaining the art of blending, they’ve created something that appeals to both whiskey enthusiasts seeking quality and casual drinkers wanting approachability. This bottle proves that American whiskey can innovate while maintaining integrity, offering a unique expression that stands apart in an increasingly crowded marketplace.
