Marchesini Bardolino 2020 750ml
Description
Three generations of the Marchesini family have tended vines overlooking Lake Garda, but it’s the current generation that’s elevating Bardolino from tourist wine to serious bottling. Their 2020 vintage showcases what happens when traditional knowledge meets modern ambition in one of Italy’s most picturesque wine regions.
The 2020 vintage brought challenges across Italy, but Bardolino’s lake-moderated climate proved its worth. While other regions struggled with weather extremes, the Garda microclimate maintained its equilibrium, producing grapes of exceptional balance. Marchesini’s sustainable practices and careful canopy management ensured healthy fruit despite the difficulties.
Aromatically fresh and inviting, this wine offers a bouquet of red cherries, wild strawberries, and pink grapefruit, enhanced by floral notes of violet and rose. The lakeside influence shows in a subtle mineral quality, while hints of almond and fresh herbs add complexity. It’s immediately appealing yet rewards closer attention.
The palate delivers Bardolino’s signature combination of drinkability and interest. Light to medium-bodied with silky tannins, the wine dances across the palate with flavors of pomegranate, raspberry, and blood orange. A savory undertone of herb and spice prevents the fruit from becoming one-dimensional, while crisp acidity ensures a clean, refreshing finish that invites another sip.
Marchesini’s 2020 Bardolino proves that even in challenging vintages, dedicated producers can craft wines of real character. It’s a versatile bottle that works as well with antipasti as it does with grilled fish, offering immediate pleasure while showcasing the potential of this often-overlooked appellation.
