Description

A concentrated and aromatic Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé

The estate

Located in the heart of the village of Saint-Émilion near the monolithic church, the Château La Couspaude has belonged to the Aubert family since 1750. This Grand Cru Classé, known in the Middle Ages as “La Croix Paute”, takes its name from the cross at the entrance to the estate, which served as a meeting point for pilgrims making their way to Saint-Jacques de Compostelle.

The vineyard

Château La Couspaude oversees a 7.01-hectare vineyard. The vines, averaging 30 years of age, are planted on the heights of the limestone plateau of Saint-Émilion. The vineyard’s grape variety composition is merlot (75%), cabernet franc (20%) and cabernet sauvignon (5%).

Winemaking and aging

Hand-picked in crates with parcel-by-parcel selection, the grapes undergo manual sorting followed by whole-cluster vinification in new barrels. Pre-fermentation cold maceration. Manual punch-downs. Malolactic fermentation takes place in barrels, as does the 18-month aging.
